All the Pieces

Can you remember playing Jenga for the first time? I can't pin down the exact date for myself, but I think it was the late 80's when my parents introduced the game to my brother and I. This of course was a time when board games were still really popular, with Nintendo coming on the scene only a few years earlier. The point of the game is for each player to remove one block at a time and place it on top without the tower falling. If the tower topples over, the previous player wins. The more blocks removed, the more unsteady the tower becomes.

Our lives are often like this tower. As as we grow up and experience difficulty and loss, blocks are removed from our tower producing instability and our tower begins to sway. Although we try to regain balance, it becomes increasing more difficult and our abilities are found to be inadequate for the task.

This is the point in which we often ask God to intervene, but often in a way that says "God, help me to..." The problem here is that we're asking God to fill in the gaps when what we really need is to allow him to replace every piece with himself. Experiencing victory in the Christian life doesn't come from God being part of our life, it comes from him being ALL in our life.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing."

Psalm 23:1

It is His desire to meet our every need at every moment and we cooperate through surrender which allows him to lead and express himself in and through us. This is the victorious Christian life! He is everything we need and wants to lavish his love on us.

If you're in a season where your tower is swaying, begin to let God replace the pieces and experience His strength and stability. Take some time to focus on the truth about God through reflection on some of his names below:

Names of God

Jehovah-Jireh: Our Provider (Genesis 22:8)

Jehovah-Rohi: Our Shepherd (Psalm 23)

Jehovah-Nissi: Our Banner (Exodus 17:15)

Jehovah-Rapha: Our Healer (Exodus 15:26)
