MARCELL GARDNER SPATES, MA

Christian Counselor

For as long as I can recall, I have always desired to help others. While I initially thought that was through the field of traditional medicine, I found myself in the middle of my undergraduate journey no longer having a passion to enter the medical field. With a lot of prayer and the right words from my grandmother, I charted a path in the area of psychology. This led to a graduate degree in school counseling and eventually my licensure as an Associate Professional Counselor.

My journey in life has not always been ideal, but it has been one where I’ve been blessed, even though the most tragic of times. From the loss of my mother to cancer at the age of 9, to living in a home with less parental support than expected, to challenges of my true purpose, God has seen it fit to allow each and every experience to equip me to help others through counseling. Currently, I have the honor to serve as a high school counselor, helping my students develop in the areas of academic, career, socially and emotionally. Personally, I am a dedicated husband to my wife Sharika for over 12 years and a loving father to 3 great children, Marcell Jr. (MJ), Sydney, and Matthew.

My ultimate goal is to walk along beside you to assist you in working through your challenging times and find healing. As one of my professors used to tell us “counselors help people get out of the place and feeling of stuckedness .“

I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve others through Freedom Path Counseling, and I look forward to the growth and healing that will occur through Christ.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”

Matthew 6:33
