History of Grace Ministries International

Grace Ministries International (GMI) traces its roots to Grace Fellowship International (GFI), founded in Denver in 1967 and launching ministry operations in 1969. For nearly two decades, GFI served individuals and churches nationwide through counseling, training, and discipleship grounded in the message of freedom and transformation in Christ.

As the ministry grew, GFI recognized the need for regional expressions of its work. In 1986, after 17 years of national impact, it shifted to a model that empowered independent regional offices. Grace Fellowship Atlanta became its own legal entity that year, marking the beginning of what evolved into a global network of counseling and discipleship centers—later forming Network 220, now an international association of more than 110 churches, counseling centers, and ministries.

Embracing a wider vision, Grace Fellowship Atlanta expanded internationally. In 1994, after planting a sister ministry in Budapest, Hungary, the organization adopted the name Grace Ministries International (GMI). The Budapest ministry began under U.S. leadership and soon thrived under local leaders, reflecting GMI’s focus on sustainable, indigenous ministry.

GMI continued expanding across the globe with training and discipleship initiatives in Croatia, South America, Africa, China, and Canada, ultimately reaching every continent. Stateside, GMI planted ministries in Charlotte, NC; Washington, D.C.; Nashville, TN; Huntsville, AL; and beyond—equipping leaders to carry the message of grace-based transformation into their communities.

Throughout its history, GMI has remained committed to helping people walk free in Christ and equipping the church to live in the fullness of that freedom. Counseling, discipleship training, and spiritual equipping have always driven its mission.

Moving Forward: The Merger with Freedom Path Counseling

As GMI looked to continue its legacy of faith-based counseling and global discipleship, an opportunity emerged to join with Freedom Path Counseling (FPC)—a like-hearted organization dedicated to emotional, spiritual, and mental wholeness.

Through prayerful alignment, GMI entered into a merger with FPC, uniting decades of ministry experience with FPC’s growing counseling and community impact. The merger preserves GMI’s grace-based discipleship model within a broader counseling and equipping framework. Under Freedom Path Counseling, GMI’s mission, materials, and ministry DNA remain active—ensuring the message of freedom in Christ continues to reach people locally and around the world.

Together, GMI and FPC move forward with a shared purpose: helping people experience deep, lasting transformation in their lives.
