About Me

I believe that a lot of issues like depression, anger and anxiety can stem from sources that have caused loss or trauma in a person’s life. These losses can result in deep wounds that have not been addressed. Most often a person develops survival responses they used at the time of the event to cope. They continue to use these responses when interacting with the world around them even though the event happened long ago.  In regards to trauma people are sometimes told things like “forget about the past” or “positive thinking can overcome adversity”. Examining past hurt allows the brain to fully grieve what happened to that individual and thus promote emotional healing which then leads to hope. I use a trauma-informed method of counseling but instead of focusing on the symptoms I address the source of the past hurts. This is a Christian-Integrated approach that unites biblical principles with psychology and brain science.

In addition to earning my degree in a Masters in Biblical Counseling from Luther Rice Seminary, I have experience working in the mental health field as an Activity Therapist before raising my four children. My training certificate in the Advanced Trauma-Informed Soul Care through BDA Ministries has equipped me to help my clients heal from Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adult-Onset Trauma. I am am also trained in the Exchange Life Model. I also sit under the teaching of Barbara Moon, author of Joyful Relationships. She trains her students in the neurotheologian Jim Wilder’s Life Model Works method which focuses on developing the different stages of maturity.

My own traumatic events that I experienced as an adult led me to healing and a desire to walk with others who have suffered. 2 Corinthians 1:4 expresses my heart as a counselor. “We can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
